The tools

The tools a licensed setting uses

A pedagogy without tools is a set of good intentions. These tools turn the twenty five principles into a working day, and every licence includes them.

The tools

MeMap

MeMap is a profile completed by the young person, with support, before their first session. It is not an adult's assessment of a child against a typical trajectory. It is a map of the whole person, in their own words, built around what helps them thrive. It is the child's document, it travels with them, and it is updated as they change.

The Holistic Individual Learning Plan

The HILP is the plan for each learner: what they are working on, in their own way, across the whole person and not only the academic. Where a young person has an EHC plan, the HILP ties to its outcomes, so progress can be shown at annual review in the plan's own terms. Where there is no plan, the HILP stands alone.

The Neurodictionary

A shared vocabulary for neurodivergent experience, illustrated by Evie-Lola Minney, so that a young person, a parent and a teacher can mean the same thing by the same word. Written and illustrated, and included with the licence for use inside the setting.

The OurVerse wellbeing and distress scale

My own scale for wellbeing and distress, written for neurodivergent and disabled young people. It is used weekly alongside the learning journal, because a rise in wellbeing is the first sign that the environment is right, long before academic progress shows.

The weekly learning journal

The teacher records progress every week on a GDPR compliant online learning journal, with photographs where families consent. The record is visual and written, and families and young people have their own log in. It becomes hard evidence of learning and socialisation for a local authority, and a source of pride and belonging for the young person.

One document that travels. The same tools sit inside The Early Years Ecosystem and The Freedom Approach. So a child profiled in a nursery at three carries the same MeMap and plan into reception, into a resource base, into an EOTAS package and into post 16. That continuity is what sets the family of tools apart.
The tools are the intellectual property of Yasmin A Darling Consultancy Ltd and are provided to licence holders for use within their licensed provision. They are not for resale or onward distribution. The licence sets out the terms.
